344. The commanding Indian lady with the most beautiful Poms

"Suck...suck...such," I pursed my lips to make this sound. "You really hold up the weak distressed pup and suck water out of its lungs?" I asked this tall and big Indian lady who own a pair of 3-year-old red Pomeranians with the thickest coat of hair.

She towered over me. I am above average height for a Chinese man.I thought she was a dancer but I was mistaken. A physical presence that cannot be ignored. A broad face with yellowish brown make up powder, 2 black pencilled eyebrows of at least 1 cm wide converging towards a violet purple 1-cm diameter circle (I believed it is called doti) between the eyebrows.

"The pet shop operator gave me a pamphlet written by you on breeding puppies when I bought the pair from them at Simei," she commanded my attention or anybody with her presence and brownish full dress with leopard spots. "So, I was able to save the puppies. I will fax you a copy."

"I don't publish such articles for distribution," I frowned. "They may be case studies from the internet."

It was good to know she benefited from the knowledge of resuscitation of puppies through the mouth. Sucking out the mucus from the lungs so that they can breathe.

"Many breeders will not do that," I said. Well, she was very happy. She said that her pair was micro-chipped. The male was lost but luckily recovered when the dog was sent to the vet and scanned, showing her owner's particulars.

It was good feedback as she reiterated that the progenies of the pair had been recommended by her to see me. Such cases make a vet's day. That pet shop operator must be quite smart to offer educational material to back up a sale for home breeders. I wonder who he or she is.

343. Replace diapers when the wife has gone overseas

Toilet Training Your First Puppy in Singapore

The male Shih Tzu who is fearless and bites the owner even when 'spanke' was toilet trained on diapers (puppy training pads). The wife insisted on this method, but when she had to go overseas to work, the husband swopped it for newspapers.

"It is cleaner than newspapers," I said. "Did it work?"

"He will pee on it sometimes but then shreds the papers more than he did to the diapers," the husband said.

"You need to use soiled newspapers with his urine smell," I said.

"I use a toilet training aid - smelly stuff," the husband said. "But now he disappears to a corner to poop."

"You need to confine him first," I said. "It may take 4 weeks of training."

"So troublesome," the husband said.

With confinement, persistence and patience, paper training will work. Male Shih Tzus with alpha leadership qualities like this puppy are not so easily tamed!
